Today, I’m exploring how students can lead the way in teaching digital citizenship, by sharing a real story from a public middle school in the USA. At Henry Lord Community School, a group of middle school students combined Spirit Week with student-created video lessons about digital citizenship. The student-led lessons were shared with families & generated excitement around what can happen when student voice, leadership, and competence are used to design online safety lessons. So... How to Teach Digital Citizenship in Middle School? Let the Students Lead! In this video, I spotlight a school and their innovative educators, who saw that digital citizenship could be led by the experts - the middle school students! Teaching about being a digital citizen can be about connection, trust, and student leadership when learners teach each other how to navigate online life with skill and self-awareness.
