Wltoys K989 Rally Fiesta Mod: Now With Arduino Drift Assist!

You can’t really drift? It doesn’t matter anymore! Because my Arduino 2.4GHz DIY Open Source „Micro RC“ remote control system does now include an MPU-6050 based „Drift Assist“. The function is called MRSC (Micro RC Stability Control). How does it work? The measured yaw rate from the MPU-6050 gyro / accelerometer is compared with the theoretical yaw rate (steering angle* speed). The Arduino based receiver is then processing the required steering angle for the servo. This helps to keep the car under control on slippery surfaces. Results: The car drives a straight line during full acceleration on gravel, parquet etc. A controlled drift is easy, because of the automatic counter steering. The gain of the MRSC system can easily be controlled with the potentiometer knob on the transmitter. This allows to calibrate the system depending on the car an the track condition. The MPU-6050 shield is auto-detected during the receiver initialization. If no sensor is detected, the receiver is switching to the mode without sensor. So it’s plug and play.
