Originally this was an experiment for my Seattle friends who had lost power during the November storms. In the end this little heater is a plausible heat source for a space or if you are in a pinch. I used a 6" clay pot on top of a couple bricks with some foil underneath. The claypot would get upto about 200f, using four tealights. I used 6 and it got up to 220f, which for the small space got the temperature up to 73f from 65f. When I used 6 tealights the temperature raised to 75f over the course of about an hour. I did not let them run much longer as I was in and out of my office that day and I wanted to keep them supervised. Some factors to keep in mind while using this type of heater. Ventilation could be an issue as you heat is slow to create and could quickly go somewhere else if you have a draft. Also, if you outside conditions are much cooler than what this method can compensate for, it may not be a valid source for heat and the overall BTU output may not be adequate to fight off the cold. As always, safety third and be safe.
