School background Granger High School has been an anchor to the West Valley City community for over sixty years. At the time it was founded in 1958, Granger drew from farming and rural families living in Granger, a small community on the west side of the Salt Lake valley. From the early days, Lancers distinguished themselves in arts, music and athletics, winning numerous awards and championships. That tradition continues to this day. The rural Granger of yesterday has given way to a dynamic and active West Valley City of today. Granger is a melting pot, and a uniquely American place to attend high school. The almost 1700 students come from 40 different countries. 850 students are bilingual, with over 30 languages other than English spoken at home; yet despite their diverse backgrounds and unique perspectives, Lancers are united under the banner of high achievement and excellence. Granger High School is committed to graduating students who are prepared with college and career-ready knowledge and skills to enter and contribute to the global community as responsible citizens. The past three years have seen remarkable growth in all measured areas: increased academic scores, reduced failures, better on-time attendance, improved graduation rate, and reduced behavior incidents. We have done this by maintaining extremely low class sizes in math and English in order to support the student-family-teacher relationship. As a part of this important growth and preparation, Granger will welcome ninth graders to Granger at the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year. In addition, students and staff will enter a brand new school building (to be completed in June 2013) with state of the art facilities. The building will be 440,000 square feet and will feature two gymnasiums, a running track, a 1500 seat auditorium, a large CTE area, and indoor pool. After the demolition of the old building in 2013, tennis courts and softball/soccer fields will be built, finishing out the last phase of construction.
