1987 Turbo RX7 S4 Transmission synchro replacement. This is not a definitive guide, but more or less the process I did to replace the synchro's. Whether this transmission is now junk or not only time will tell. This is about half the cost of a rebuild from a shop, so definitely not super cheap. I don't have a manual transmission shop near me, and I didn't want to wait or mess about with shipping. Rebuild Technical manual I followed = Non-Turbo and Turbo FC: https://www.rotaryheads.com/PDF/2nd_g... Parts used: BK199WS transmission rebuild kit with bearings $375 https://transpartswarehouse.com/bk199... (5th gear synchro in this kit is too small, mine was still good and was not replaced) Grey RTV: fuel and oil resistant $5 Tools needed: *10mm, 12mm, 14mm,17mm, 19mm, 21mm, 27mm and 41mm sockets $20 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DCZ8FGL?... **41mm has to be cut in half and welded to a pipe to reach about 2 feet. *Harbor freight ICON bearing puller (modified with 11" extensions, recommend 14") $200 https://www.harborfreight.com/master-... *Harbor freight pulley puller; ground down to 6.5mm width $40 https://www.harborfreight.com/automot... *Welder *Cut off wheel to cut 41mm socket and pipe *Angle grinder to modify pulley puller width *Lock ring pliers $15 *Snap ring pliers $30 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092C7FZJW?... *Needle nose pliers *Pick set *Vise-grip 6 inch locking C-Clamp *Impact gun/Air impact gun to break the bolts free *Torque wrench *punch set *Map gas/propane torch *Screw drivers *Rubber Mallet *Brass hammer *Hammer *Many plastic bags, ID tags and preferably some way to film yourself in case you get mixed up. **Hydraulic press, not used in this video but recommended *****You should probably follow the manual and use feeler gauges and dial calipers to measure clearances and offsets. I didn't have spare shims or washers so I replaced the synchro's and bearings without measuring. I wouldn't recommend this, and It will probably be why the transmission fails, if it does.
