Za-ja-ce – Skorocel [art rock, Slovakia 1978]

Legendary Slovak band “Za-ja-ce” led by Zajaček brothers, released their only album in 1978. All songs were composed on lyrics by poet and lyricist Peter Brhlovič. They are telling the story of the human life in interesting poetic metaphors likened to the year in nature – to three seasons. From begetting to the vision of the future. The fourth song on the album is named after the plant plantago (in Slovak language) – “Skorocel”. It is attended to the late teen-age, to youth, to the times of first loves... Composer (one of the band leaders) Pavel Zajaček conceived this piece in more progressive style, using frequent rhythmical changes, very challenging brass parts and he is also connecting jazz chords with tradition of contemporary classical music, but at the same time he doesn´t leave the rock structure, which is the base of this programmatic album. Typical jazz rock style was here overcomposed to the art rock piece with longer timing (more than six minutes). Unfortunately, this LP was pressed on vinyl only and released in the very small edition, so today it is very difficult to find a copy of this interesting contribution of “Za-ja-ce” to the Slovak popular music.
