VOO vs SPLG - Which ETF Performs Better? (Comparison Between These S&P 500 ETFs). In this comparison video I will talk about VOO vs SPLG. So, the main difference between them is the brand. VOO follows the S&P 500 index. This is offered by one of the largest asset management companies known as Vanguard. On the other hand, SPLG is the SPDR portfolio S&P 500 ETF that is offered by a sizable asset management firm known as State Street Global Advisors. VOO wins in this category since the company behind it has a greater reputation. Performance The year-to-date returns of these ETFs slightly differ, with VOO having a 6.67% return. On the other hand, SPLG has a 6.69% return. VOO has had an annualized return of 12.65%, while SPLG has had an annualized return of 12.75%. SPLG, therefore, offers higher returns compared to VOO. Expense ratio An expense ratio indicates how much an ETF pays for expenses such as portfolio management and marketing. VOO has a higher expense ratio than SPLG. The expense ratio of VOO is 0.03% while SPLG's expense ratio is 0.02%. Therefore, if you are cost-conscious and are looking for a more affordable ETF, consider SPLG. But do they have any similarities? Yes. They are similar in that they both track the S&P 500 index. Therefore, they give you access to a wide selection of 500 large-cap US stocks from various industries. Additionally, they both have the same number of holdings, which is currently 505. Since these two ETFs are also passively managed, you will not incur the cost of active management. To sum up, which is better- SPLG or VOO? The first time I invested in an ETF, I chose VOO due to the reputation of the company behind it. However, after gaining more experience investing in ETFs, I switched to SPLG since I discovered that it offers higher returns. I also like SPLG since it has a lower expense ratio and helps save on costs. The risks associated with SPLG are also slightly lower than those associated with VOO. For these reasons, SPLG is the overall winner. If you found this tutorial helpful, kindly show your support by giving it a thumbs up and sharing your thoughts in the comments below.
