Knit Your 1st Pattern! Super Easy Beginner Pattern For FREE!

Welcome to Episode 4 of the Learn to Open Hand Continental Knit series. If you currently crochet and are considering knitting, this is the method for you. Like crochet, you will hold the yarn in your left hand. If you are an English style knitter and want to learn another way to knit, I hope this tutorial will help. It's great to know both English and Continental methods to help prevent repetitive stress injury. In part 2 of the series, I will teach Norwegian Purl using this method of knitting. Norwegian Purl allows you to keep your yarn at the back of your work instead of having to pull it forward. It's a very useful method to know. Like and subscribe to stay tuned into the channel. There are 2 versions of each video. One version contains tiles containing instructions on how to work each stitch in writing, followed by a video of the step being worked. The 2nd version contains just headings and the videos. If you learn best by reading, watch the tiled version. If you learn best by doing and get impatient reading, use the Only Videos version. In Episode #0 we discussed what materials are suggested for this series. You can also get a list of the materials from the Handout section of the Mixed Tape Fiber Arts website. In Episode 1 we go over how to hold the yarn for the Open Hand method of Continental Knitting. Once you have this part down, the rest will be much easier to learn. Just one step at a time. In Episode 2 I teach you how to Cast On with 3 different methods: Knit Cast On, Cable Cast On, and the Long Tail Cast On. This will allow you to find a method that works best for you when you are first starting out. You can always learn the other methods later. In Episode 3 I will show you how to work the knit stitch step by step. By this point you will be well on your Knitting Adventure. In THIS EPISODE 4 you will download a very beginner pattern from the Mixed Tape website and knit along with me to create a very practical item, a garter stitch rectangle that is a coaster, a trivet, a face scrub, a soap holder...it's cotton so the uses are many.
