Continuing on from the previous theme...subtle defensive manoeuvres. Moving slightly to your left, right or backwards can be advantageous of stepping out of the line of fire and/or allowing you to exploit your opponent's vulnerability. These movements are stepping 45 degrees to your left or right and are known as 'carry' or 'step' respectively. For stepping backwards with the rear leg this is 'pull'. I have laid out some shadowboxing/heavy bag drills in the video, the structure is listed below: Developing the movement patterns. Round 1: Carry only Round 2: Step only Round 3: Pull only. If you are stumbling or not aligning your stance properly after taking the angle, repeat the drill for another round: Once you have it down-pat. You can apply freestyle boxing and controls before and/or after performing a carry, step, pull. Alternatively, you can solely focus on a few strikes (preferred if you're new to this drill). When you are front on (neutral position), only throw a jab and/or cross, for 'carry' only throw a cross, for 'step' a lead hook and 'pull' a cross. Round 1: Carry only Round 2: Step only Round 3: Combine both carry and step movements Round 4: Pull only Round 5: Perform all movements together Let me know in the comments below how you performed.
