Spikenard essential oil has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic practices, and makes a few appearances in the bible. It was typically used to anoint people of high honour. Also a favourite of the Romans as a perfume. A plant in the Valerian family, Spikenard is steam distilled from the roots of a flowering plant that produces small, delicate pink flowers. It’s is native to the high altitude regions of the himalayas. doTERRA sources Spikenard in Nepal, working with small, local communities who are paid beyond fair trade for their product and also paid year-round, which is rather unheard of in the industry (typically producers are paid only at the time of harvest).
