This list is a passion project that has been made possible thanks to over a dozen contributors, researchers, and calculators. Huge credits to everyone involved. All songs used in this video belong to the artists themselves, and all artists/songs will be linked and credited in a google doc. I appreciate the support. I'll try respond to any questions that are asked about this video, because there will definitely be a lot. Also, just a heads up, this video is not feasibly perfect. There is no way for us to have heard every fast rap from every country, but we've tried our best and made very underground/obscure discoveries to the point where we're satisfied with releasing the video now in its current state. If anybody believes there are faster rappers from certain countries presented on this list, please feel free to reach out. || song & artist credits || https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/... || blah blah blah, explaining the calculations || SPS, Syllables Per Second, is the long accepted unit of measurement of a rapper’s speed. On a fundamental level the process is simple enough, as the result is obtained by dividing the amount of syllables said by a rapper by the length of the timeframe they occupy on a song. You'll notice that this video's method of calculation likely differs from more popular videos covering fast verses. Some people prefer calculations where verses are timed up to 10 seconds. This method is more suited to figuring out the AVERAGE speed of a verse, whereas our aim is to figure out the PEAK speed of a verse. A reference frame of one second or, more often than not, slightly longer than that, is still faithful to the “syllables per second” denomination while showcasing the absolute fastest speed reached by a rapper. It is, in our opinion, more compelling from a ranking standpoint, as well as a presentation one, as it results in a higher variance of results between rappers. Longer timeframes, usually 10 seconds, end up watering down the results by a relevant amount, as it’s unlikely that a fast burst goes on for longer than 3 or 4 seconds at the speeds showcased in the video (13-14 SPS and higher), meaning that those 3 seconds are surrounded by 7 seconds that may include slower rapping (bringing the average speed down), no rapping (tanking the average speed), or vocals from different takes (making it impossible to count the entire section as steady rapping): in other words, there are too many things that can go wrong in 10 seconds. Two rappers could have the same results of 130 syllables in 10 seconds, with the difference being that one raps a steady 13 SPS all the way through, the other one hits peaks of 16 SPS and slows down to regular speeds in other sections. Our intention is to acknowledge such accomplishments, as the main focus of these lists is sheer speed, instead of something such as stamina, which is still impressive in its own regard. That being said, there is nothing wrong with preferring an alternative method. If you believe a 10-second method provides a better viewing experience, then I fully encourage for others to make videos with such formats. However, personally for me (and many others), we believe the method used in this video is perfectly enjoyable and remains faithful to SPS. || Video credits || This video was primarily researched, calculated, and edited by the following people: 🇺🇦 ayng / @ayng_sps 🇬🇧 Cyber / @thecyb3rr 🇮🇹 Dvagoh / @dvagoh 🇦🇺 Jackal / @thejackalrapper 🇬🇧 NahDah / @nahdahvebb 🇺🇸 NFM / @nfm9428 🇧🇷 TrollatorBR / @trollatorbr 🇮🇹 Wedere / @wedere_fast_rap I also want to give a huge thanks to Chloe for helping out hugely with identifying certain languages on this video.
