Fitzrovia Chapel - Free hidden Gothic richly decorated masterpiece near Oxford Street, London

Fitzrovia Chapel, not far from Oxford Street, really worth the effort to find! Gothic Chapel of the old Middlesex Hospital. In a time before the NHS, the hospital, which was founded in 1745, and later it's chapel were all funded by private donations. Started in 1891, finished in 1929. Under the chapel there are Tunnels that were used right across the hospital for laundry. In Victorian times this was a poor area and Charles Dickens probably used it as a source for several of his books including Oliver Twist. The hospital finally closed in 2005 and was then demolished, but the Chapel was left completely surrounded by empty ground before the redevelopment. Location for TV and film including Apple Tree Yard, The Crown, The Danish Girl. Entrance: Pearson Square off Mortimer Street, the A5204 as approached from Oxford Street. Nearest underground station is Tottenham Court Road If in central London the Fitzrovia Chapel is well worth visiting, the wow moment as you go in is just incredible !
