In this delightful conversation, Dr. Ntombizandile “Zandi” Gcelu shared her journey in teaching and mentoring that started under a tree as primary teacher of grades 1 and 2, which was influenced by her roots and cultural background where she grew up sharing the little that they had with other people, respect and kindness were fundamental aspects in her family and she still brings those values to her life and teaching today. Learn from Dr. Gcelu about the meaning of Ubuntu, and the consequences of Ubuntu on her own relationships. Dr. Gcelu’s research focuses on stakeholder collaboration and Ubuntu, the dynamics of collaboration and collaborative initiatives for sustainable leadership in rural schools. She explains how the pandemic brought forth collaboration in a different way with technology and what a success that has been in helping mentees feel invested in mentoring and gain feedback from their peers as well as multiple mentors. Dr. Gcelu is one of the three conveners of the World Education Research Association (WERA) International Research Networks (IRNs) in the UFS in Africa and I am also a member of International Mentoring Association (IMA).
