What is an Air Consumption Drill? The recruits run through this drill to understand how much work they can do with the air in their tank before needing more. This is their “big training day” in orientation before being sent to their assigned stations. During the drill, each firefighter completes the following activities: pack out in under 2 minutes force a door, set up ventilation with PPV fan carry and raise the ladder, climb to a second-story window perform indoor search pattern victim rescue (drag), 50 feet pull charged hose line, flow water to strike targets hit Kaiser sled from one end to another carry foam buckets around the bay -carry high-rise pack around the station Each tank carries approximately 45 minutes of air, but this air can last different amounts of time for each firefighter based on their breathing during physical or stressful activities. It’s important for each of them to understand how they uniquely consume air prior to entering a fire. As our new recruits kick off their year-long probationary period, we wish them well at their newly assigned stations and shifts!
