Singapore’s First Polder: A New Way to Reclaim Land

Today, I visited the site of Singapore’s first Polder at Pulau Tekong. This marks the first time we are using the Polder method of land reclamation — one that requires less sand than traditional infilling. With its dike and water management system, the Polder is designed to withstand rising sea levels and heavier rainfall. Operating the Polder will give us valuable insights into how we can protect our coasts and build resilience against climate change. It will also provide the SAF with more training areas, while freeing up land on the mainland for other development needs. A big thank you to all our officials in the government agencies especially HDB and PUB, the project consultant Surbana Jurong and the contractors who made this possible.
