The Bottled Imp - Episode 110 Here at Bottled Imp Towers, we love fairy-tales. All shapes, all sizes, all tones of fairy-tales. So when we heard there was a film that contained many fairy-tales in one, we couldn’t resist. This Friday Fantasy Show, sees us looking at the fantasy film ‘Tale of Tales’, directed by Matteo Garrone and realised in 2015. This film is an adaptation based on the collection of tales called ‘Pentamerone’, translated into English as ‘Tale of Tales’ by Neapolitan poet and courtier Giambattista Basile. Another title for the collection is ‘Lo cunto de li cunti’ (yes, that really is Italian) which in English means ‘Entertainment for Little Ones’. Well, things were different back in the 17th century because these tales are certainly not for the modern day child. The story contains three tales that co-exist. They don’t cross over, no characters converge, and the only commonality is they are three Kingdoms of the same world. The three tales are ‘The Enchanted Doe’, ‘The Flea’, and ‘The Flayed Old Lady’ and are told in a cut way, not one after each other. This gives the feeling of submergence. The viewer is always involved with one of the three stories. The tales themselves are macabre, bizarre and wonderfully twisted with a sophisticated sense of storytelling. Each one different, each one intriguing, and each one has the power to be believed despite the fantastical elements. I’d wanted to see this at the cinema as I’d heard it was a visual feast. Unfortunately I didn’t. So I snuggled down with a cup ‘of tea with great anticipation… ------------------------------------------ The Bottled Imp Exploring the Realms of Fantasy. **** New shows every Wednesday & Friday **** SUBSCRIBE NOW!..... http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c...
