Not obviously a Christmas song, the last verse does talk about turkey , Christmas presents and Jesus however, and it is always in my thoughts this time of year. It comes from the phenomenal debut Lindisfarne Album "Nicely Out of Tune", this being one of principal songwriter Alan Hull's very all-time best. Like a lot writers, his fate was to be famous for one of his worst or throwaway songs - "Fog On The Tyne" - but throughout his career he was apt to come up with real gems, this being one of them. In a way it is a companion to the wonderful "One More Bottle Of Wine" from his solo Album "Squire". I used to play quite a few of his songs, and maybe I'll dust some of them off.. he is one of our best ever songwriters and they should be sung ! I was fortunate to see Lindisfarne a few times, including in Newcastle at the CIty Hall which was only rivalled as an experience when I went to see The Clash there.. ! I also saw Alan a couple of times playing acoustic sets with Kenny Craddock, his passing was way too premature.
