During a campaign to "End Domestic Violence," the Murray County Sheriff's Office arrested one of their own for allegedly assaulting his wife, who is also a deputy within the same department. "It shows us how big of a problem it really is in the community. You know, when it could happen this close to home... it's something we really need to focus on and try to help any way we can to make that situation better," says Chief Deputy Brian Ingle. 33-year-old former deputy, Ralph Ridley was reported by his wife for domestic violence last week. The Sheriff's Office says when he was brought in for an interview, Ridley refused all questioning. He was arrested and charged on seven different violations. Two of them are felonies. He was immediately placed on administrative leave, and was scheduled for a Superior Court hearing Wednesday, but was released from jail Tuesday night on a $15,000 bond. "He bonded out of the Murray County jail last night and just prior to that, his employment with us was terminated," says Ingle. The Sheriff's Office followed policy by placing Ridley on paid administrative leave. But before waiting to see what a judge decided, the department fired him. Ingle says they did so because of "the nature of what had taken place, and the fact that he was arrested and charged with two felonies." Ridley will likely face a Grand Jury in December.
