The 2013 Singapore Grand Prix was a masterclass in perfection, a race where Sebastian Vettel didn't just win—he demoralized the rest of the grid. Under the stunning floodlights of the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Vettel delivered what many consider one of the most dominant performances in the history of the sport, further cementing his path toward a fourth consecutive World Championship. Vettel’s "Invisibe" Dominance Starting from pole position, Vettel briefly lost the lead to Nico Rosberg at Turn 1, but after Rosberg ran deep, the Red Bull driver reclaimed the spot and never looked back. The true shock came after a mid-race Safety Car. While the field bunched up, Vettel waited for the restart and then pulled away at an astonishing rate—sometimes gapping the field by two seconds per lap. He eventually crossed the finish line over 32 seconds ahead of second place, a margin rarely seen in modern Formula 1. The Start of the Century: Fernando Alonso While Vettel was in a league of his own, Fernando Alonso provided the fireworks at the start. Launching his Ferrari from 7th on the grid, Alonso pulled off a signature "rocket start," sweeping around the outside of the field to sit in 3rd place by the exit of the first complex. It was a tactical brilliant move that allowed him to secure a hard-fought 2nd place finish, maximizing a car that was clearly slower than the Red Bull. Safety Car Drama & Raikkonen’s Heroics The rhythm of the race was interrupted on Lap 25 when Daniel Ricciardo (then in a Toro Rosso) crashed at Turn 18, bringing out the Safety Car. This triggered a strategic divide. Some chose to pit, while others stayed out. One of the stars of the night was Kimi Raikkonen. Despite suffering from severe back pain that nearly kept him out of the car on Saturday, "The Iceman" drove a relentless race. Starting from 13th, he used an aggressive strategy and a daring late-race overtake on Jenson Button to climb all the way to 3rd place, completing the podium. The "Taxi" Incident The race concluded with one of the most iconic (and controversial) images of the 2013 season. On the final lap, Mark Webber’s Red Bull suffered an engine failure and caught fire. After the checkered flag, Webber walked onto the track and hitched a ride on the sidepod of Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari. While the fans loved the "Taxi" moment, the stewards were less impressed, handing both drivers reprimands for safety violations. 2013 Singapore GP Results: 1st: Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull Racing) 2nd: Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) 3rd: Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus-Renault) 4th: Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) 5th: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) Key Highlights: Vettel’s Grand Slam: Pole, Win, Fastest Lap, and led every lap.
