Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker on Wednesday delivered his annual budget address in Springfield, focusing on themes of affordability, empathy, and taking on the Trump administration. The governor told legislators the state's finances are strong despite what he said were efforts by the Trump Administration to punish the state by withholding funds. Pritzker proposed a package of legislation focused largely on making things more affordable for middle class Illinoisians. He also took issue with big tech and social media companies, calling on them to pay their fair share. He's also proposing a ban on cell phones in the classroom. It was also a busy day in politics outside of Springfield. In Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson responded to Pritzker's plan to tax social media companies. It closely mirrors a proposal Johnson has for the city of Chicago. Meanwhile, city council members blocked a proposal that would give COPA the authority to investigate whether Chicago police officers cooperated with federal immigration agents against city policy. Finally, the family of Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke with reporters about their father's legacy one day after his passing. They say memorial services will start next week, and all are welcome to participate. --- 'The Point' airs on WGN and streams on WGN+ each weeknight at 6:45 p.m. CT Airdate: February 18, 2026 | Episode 18
