Fillers to the nose, commonly referred to as a non-surgical rhinoplasty or liquid rhinoplasty, has become a popular procedure here in the United States. Fillers to the nose are actually one of the riskiest things that you can do in the face. The anatomy of the nose is complex to say the least. There are more cases of blindness and tissue loss from fillers in the nose than fillers to any other area of the face. These may include necrosis (death of the skin tissue, which cannot then be salvaged and must be removed), cysts and infections. When non-surgical rhinoplasty is performed by a skilled, very experienced injector, it typically doesn’t cause devastating complications like blindness or tissue death. But it certainly makes a rhinoplasty more complicated. But today, I particularly want to warn against a permanent, non-surgical rhinoplasty, meaning injecting a 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 in the nose. The most commonly being used is Bellafill, which, to my knowledge, is the only approved permanent filler, and it’s not even approved for rhinoplasty, it’s approved for in the skin to treat acne scars and other areas. 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮. I’ve seen many patients and operate on many patients that have had Bellafill to the nose. Because this material cannot be dissolved, it’s typically in all the different tissues of the area injected. As you can see from this patient that I was operating on recently, Bellafill in this particular patient was not only deep in the cartilage, but it was all the way up through the skin and into the skin, which does lead to problems for my rhinoplasty patients. So to recap, while there are some candidates for filler injections in the nose, I do believe that most patients are coming in wanting tip elevation and support to lift a drooping tip, tip refinement, or to bring down a bump, which simply cannot be achieved with injectable fillers. #NonSurgicalRhinoplasty #NonSurgicalNoseJob #NoseFiller #RhinoplastyExpert #FacialPlasticSurgeon
