Little as its known Afro-Cuban are central to all realities on the Island of Cuba. After decades of resistance, recent reports suggest that Cuba is on the brink of collapse. But in truth, what's happening today is the culmination of years of civil unrest, economic challenges, Afro-Cuban resistance and US Imperialist intrigue. This also represents a sharp increase in US military presence through the Caribbean that has resulted everything from threats, economic sanctions and multiple killings of sailors & fisherman from various Islands. In the face of all this our Afro-Cuban sisters & brother have been walking the tight rope of asserting Afrikan identity within a racially repressive Cuban society, while continuing to fight against US Imperialism. We take the time to speak to our people from Cuba as they breakdown exactly what is happening and what we as Afrikans globally need to understand about it. Our Special Guests FERNANDO CARDENAS is a certified health & wellness coach, and a youth basketball coach. He is a Hip Hop ARTivist and Pan-Africanist, co-founder of the Cuban Hip Hop group 340 MS, member of the Pan-African League UMOJA (LP-U), and co-founder of the BESE SAKA Afro Vegan Fest (the only Afro-vegan and Pan-Africanist festival in Europe). Fernando is the creator and host of the VITAL HOOPS Podcast which airs on BLACK POWER MEDIA. VLAD is a Cuban, born and raised on the island, who resides in Toronto since the year 2012. Through the Cuban Hip Hop movement he found, for the first time, words to describe the experiences of Black people as well as their historical struggle in his country of origin. More recently Vlad has embraced Revolutionary Panafricanism and is a continuous learner of the history of African people, wherever they are in the world.
