Be very not afraid. This video is about the upgrade of the HID kit on a 2003 Acura TL. This included new ballasts, igniters, and bulbs on both sides of the vehicle. The vehicle has been rolling around for +/- 6 years on one light because we have other vehicles we use. The dealership quoted $1500 just to replace the driver side igniter (and I guess the bulb too, but it wasn't on the quote). I could have bought the igniter for $30 but since I had already taken the 20 minutes to remove the bumper, I wanted to expand the project by replacing the lense housing in addition to upgrading the bulbs, HID ballasts, and igniters on both sides (to the 55W/8000s medium blue light) . It was a very low-stress project. Total cost was $250 and about 3 hours of my time spread across 3 weeks (mostly sorting through ideas). Keep in mind that this could have been less than $50, I just wanted some new components because it only added a marginal level of complexity to the project, it was still only 15% of the quote, the equipment was upgraded to a better aftermarket HID kit, new headlight lenses, and it is always fun to learn. Special thanks to Headlighexperts.com who sold me the upgraded HID Kit that included new ballasts, igniters, and bulbs for under $90. Their customer support is available through email throughout the weekend when most DIY customers have the time to work on these types of projects.
