The Young Poland movement originated in the city of Kraków, the medieval capital of Poland, and the picturesque village of Zakopane at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. Both locations are in the region then known as Galicia. This historically significant area experienced an artistic and national revival in the 19th century, rooted in local folk traditions, wildlife and craft skills. This short documentary explores the most significant locations associated with the Young Poland movement, complementing objects you can see on display throughout the exhibition. Many of the sites, including the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Krakow and the Koliba Villa in Zakopane, can still be visited today and are a lasting testimony to the artistic achievements of Young Poland. Produced by the Polish Cultural Institute in London with support of the William Morris Gallery and the National Museum in Kraków.
