Jackie pancakes for the first time this season (7:27). It was a short one but it’s the thought that counts!🙃 Pancaking is one of the many nesting behaviors when they lie down in the egg cup to shape and mold it. As the egg-laying time approaches, Jackie usually does more and more pancaking. Shadow sometimes pancakes too. We also saw more hallux curling (1:20) and beaky kisses (1:50) today. Love is in the air! Common signs of nesting behavior and approaching eggs: increased nest attendance - time spent on the nest per day hallux curling - protective gesture around eggs or chicks. Hallux is the largest, rear-facing talon. pancaking - lying down to test and shape the egg cup increased water retention - Jackie’s ankles and feet may look swollen when she gets really close to laying sleeping on the nest instead of the roost tree - this typically happens when the female is very close and possibly has already ovulated …and of course more sticks and fluff! Note that Jackie pancaked on the right side of the nest, at the 3 o’clock position. Looks like they decided to move the egg cup over there, away from the back porch area (9 o’clock) where several stick shifting-and-falling events occurred since early November.
