Putting Patients First: A Human Factors Approach to Patient Care and Safety

This one day course at the ICENI Centre takes the lessons from the airline industry in addressing authority gradients, behaviours and organisational cultures to empower members of the interdisciplinary team to create change in themselves and their workplace to achieve the objectives in the Francis report. Our key message throughout the course, draws on the crucial changes in air safety brought about by the wide spread adoption of operating procedures and checklists in reducing accidents. We show how Integrated Care Pathways, Care Plans and Planned Care timetables can create caring environments which do not rely on individual contributions to sustain their delivery.
