Feeding your soil this time of year is the most important task you can check off your list in order to produce beautiful, nutrient dense crops next season. We don't directly feed our plants, the soil life does that for us. By feeding the soil life, we allow it to do what it does best- break it down into plant soluble forms allowing the relationship between plants and soil to thrive. Mulching your beds with good quality compost and your walkways with woodchips allows the soil life to get to work so we can enjoy more of the beauty this time of year. Not only does it feed the soil, but suppresses weeds, limits erosion, alleviates compaction, and allows the soil to breathe. ----- Stepping Stone Farm is a no till regenerative biodynamic farm in Napa, CA zone 9b. The 1-acre farm grows 12 months out of the year for chefs, restaurants, CSA members, friends and family.
