In this video we talk talk through how to diagnose problems with an ECU. There are many ways to diagnose problems but a few of the main strategies are: 1. Do a visual inspection. In this step you simple look at the pins and make sure they are upright and intact, if they are then it's likely not the problem! 2. Do a Smell Test. It's as easy as it sounds. Often times ECU components can corrode or melt. So get next to the ECU and take a whiff...can you smell melted plastic or similar odor? If so, open and see if any components are burnt or melted. 3. If the first two steps haven't help you identify the issue then you can do a swap. You can swap out the old ECU for a base model and if it works well then then you know the existing ECU was faulty. 4. Ultimately, it is wise to use a scanner and see if there are any engine codes that it spits out. This can help you identify specifically what is going on. Want a full list of codes?
