SMRT Bukit Batok Farewell Tribute

A tribute to the handover of Bukit Batok Interchange from SMRT Buses to Tower Transit Singapore. Originally belonging to Singapore Bus Services, Bukit Batok Interchange was handed over to Trans Island Bus Services on the 18th of June 2000 as part of an island wide bus rationalisation program. Bukit Batok was a key asset in SMRT and then-operator Trans Island Bus Services, with 9 bus services originating from the interchange - 77, 106, 173, 177, 189, 941, 945, 947 and 990. However in 2015, it was announced that Bukit Batok Interchange would be amongst the first interchanges to be affected by the new Government Bus Contracting Model which would see the introduction of new bus operators into the playing field. Tower Transit Singapore won the bid for the first ever package of the bus contracting model - the Bulim Package, which included Bukit Batok, Jurong East and Clementi. Thus on the 29th of May 2016, Tower Transit Singapore took over operations of Bukit Batok Interchange from SMRT Buses, leaving SMRT with just two services left, 61 and 852.
