Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer with a high cure rate. A shave biopsy is a common diagnostic tool where a small sample of skin is shaved off. The procedure is used to confirm in-office diagnosis. The sample or specimen is sent to a lab where a pathologist examines the sample for definitive diagnosis. The pathologist can also determine the depth of the carcinoma—whether superficial in, in the top layers of skin, or deeper in the skin.
