It sat at a the crossroads for California, Utah and Oregon trails, and would later explode with traffic due to the gold rush in '49. Fort Bridger would later burn and be seized by both the Saints militias as well as the US army during the Utah Conflict, and Jim Bridger would return to guiding expeditions and scouting/mapping for the Army all while attempting to legally be compensated for the outpost that was seized from him and had been essential in shaping the west coast. The army would rebuild the fort and name it in his Honor, but would never return to him the land or fort itself, and he would only receive a small compensation after years of claims with Washington DC. Jim Bridger would finally retire and die peacefully on his farm back in Missouri, oddly enough, he had never made any wealth from the outpost despite the famous criticism found in many Oregon Trail diaries of his prices, and without compensation for his losses, he would live out his late years in modesty and peace--the wealth accumulated being the knowledge and place he had served in building a continent wide nation.
