Being social was going to school, calling people up on the phone and going out to the mall, movies or going to Fun Factory. Fun Factory is a video game hall and boy was it big thing back then. The one we had was gigantic and everyone went there. Every weeked, I'd muster up about twenty dollars worth of quarters plus money for food and i'd either get dropped off at Fun Factory or my friends and I would walk there after the mall had closed. It's what everyone did. We didn't have to worry about being abducted or anything like that. There was very, very little crime here but that's another story. Anyway, my game was Street Fighter II. If you're not familiar with that, it was a 2d, one on one fighting game and it was quite popular. The memes are still going around 'till this day! I would play that game for hours and all of a sudden, a much taller, much browner kid started to come and play against me every time I would get on there. His name was Steve and he was an asshole. He would beat me every single time and it pissed me off. I would come super, super close to winning but he'd pull something out of his ass at the last second. It was infuriating. Eventually, we would generate a small crowd of on-lookers as they knew...we were the rivals. And they knew we hated each other. A fight...was inevitable. On one blustery night, I burst through the doors determine to beat him. I yelled to people "Where's Steve??" while seemingly angry and eventually found him. When I got up to him, he was looking at me all hard and said something like "SUP? Wanna do this?" "Anytime, anywhere", I said. So we strolled on over the Street Fighter II machine much to the dismay of everyone there who thought we were going to actually fight lol. I played my heart out. In mind, "You're The Best Around" was playing loudly throughout the center. You know? The song from the original Karate Kid movie during the All Valley tournament? Well, I was the worst around. I lost time and time again and Steve would just laugh at me with this dumb, condescending chuckle. Finally, I had enough, looked at him and said "FFFFFFFFFFFFFF**K YOU! He laughed more and then asked something completely shocking: "Wanna sleep over my house tonight?" To which I responded with "....Okay". 😂 Steve became my best friend throughout the rest of my school days. Funny how things happen. #SRPD61 #SBSA011 #LCBI
