It's a great step of obedience in following Jesus and is emblematic (an outward showing) of our salvation. Look to Jesus, the Son of God and focus of the Gospel. He is our hope. NOTE: As stated, the work of Baptism is not the means to enter Heaven, but there is no reason for a Christian not to want to be baptized.
