A transgender woman was beaten inside her own home after asking a mob outside to be quiet. Kendall Stephens, 34, told Action News she was attacked late at night because she threatened to call 911 on a loud ruckus of people causing a scene outside her home in Philadelphia on August 24. ‘It was a brawl,’she said. ‘People were fighting, people were throwing around liquor bottles all in front of my property while I had kids inside. She said her husband, 12-year-old goddaughter and another child were inside the house while the group attacked her and ripped a surveillance camera from the wall. This lady comes balling at me like a bull and starts swinging at me,’ Stephens said. ‘I tried to close my door, front door, and as I’m doing this, she kicks it open and starts attacking me all about the face.’ Stephens said that while they attacked her, they ridiculed her for being transgender, calling her a man and other names. ‘They called me a tranny,’ she said. ‘They said that I deserved it.’ Stephens said her lips are swollen, her jaw is sore, and she’s barely able to chew. She’s also scared because the group threatened to ‘come back and finish the job.’ ‘I am in fear of my life,’ she said. ‘(They were the) last words they said to me. They already showed what kind of monsters they are, they’re savages.’ Deja Alvarez, co-chair of the Philadelphia LGBTQ Police Liaison committee said she is making sure that justice will be found for Stephens. ‘I was grateful that Kendall was alive, but I am angry at some that this happened,’ she said. ‘ There will be an example made that it is not going to be open season on trans people.’ The six people highlighted in the video include three women and three men. There have been no arrests, but there is a surveillance tape and police have some leads. #SchengenStoryNews
