Over on Instagram I am starting a “series” I guess I will call it - called Science Sunday where every week or every other week I will try to explain something science-y about some of this ASMR stuff many in the community indulge in. Some videos will be fun and interesting and some will be serious to address concerns I have with chemicals being mixed and heated Willy Nilly. No I will not be showing explosions and dangerous reactions for fear that people (aka children) may want to try them. I may just visually explain the reactions with diagrams. I’m not sure exactly what yet. The reason I am doing it on IG is that there is an age restriction on IG of 13 years, so there are less children on that platform than here. I will likely post some of the videos here as well - maybe those about color changes and such. Back in my slime days another member of the slime community went on a live and was mixing some different chemicals together. The heat that was created from the chemical reactions melted her mixing container and burned her hands so severely she couldn’t make slime for months and had to wear gloves for a long time after. My background is in science but seeing that really got my mind going to the dangers that could present without the knowledge. I’m not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill or overreact or try to hurt everyone’s fun. I absolutely love this hobby. It’s fun, creative, relaxing and relieves my stress. And 99.9% of the time there is no issue. No one gets hurt, no one damages anything. But I can’t ignore that there is a certain amount of competition in the ASMR community. And healthy competition is a good thing! It brings out creativity! Creativity can mean trying new things. I want to prevent anything bad happening when people think of new things to try. And I have absolutely made errors 100%. And no I don’t sit there and think “okay I can mix this amount of A with this bill amount of B safely” every single time I reform. And how many times do you see a video where the AMSRtist says, “these reforms were green when I put them in the molds, but they dried yellow. I have no idea why!”? I thought it might be fun to explain things like that. This video is different powders mixed with differentt liquids air dried to show some different textures. I’m not listing what powders and what liquids I used because I don’t want anyone to recreate this and put the reforms in a dehydrator which I feel people might do. Some of these combinations should not be heated. Some of the liquids are also not safe to be mixed together. I threw this powder out after this crush. My fear is that someone might recreate some of this and then reform it using another liquid and it could cause a reaction. We generally use really small quantities of chemicals that are quite dilute comparatively speaking in the ASMR community, so likely nothing horrific will happen, but knowledge is power and I feel better knowing I put some safety information out there for people and then they can make their own decisions about what to use or not. I’ve rambled enough now… Enjoy! #oddlysatisfying #satisfyingvideos #autonomoussensorymeridianresponse #reformedgymchalk #gymchalk #asmr #asmrgymchalk #gymchalkasmr #dyedgymchalk #comet #cornstarch #asmrpowder #asmrcrumble #gymchalkcrush #gymchalk #sleepaid #relaxation #satisfyingsounds #asmrcommunity
