DRAMBO-CUBASIS-NEON-AUM - we’re getting there…

I really feel that iOS music making on an iPad is finally getting close to where we need to be to compete with Macs and PCs. We’re still a way away from the workflow of something like Ableton but there are many advantages to writing, mixing and even mastering on an iPad. 4Pockets Neon has been a revelation for me. Now I can be working on an idea, record it into Neon and then cut, edit, transpose, time stretch (and many other things) until I’m happy. This could then also be processed through any AUv3 in AUM or Cubasis and then Resampled in Neon…and so on. My kind of sound design 😊 Writing stems into Cubasis is also easy now thanks to the newly added Ableton link, which gives me more flexibility when working with live mixes. In this track I recorded 5 stems into Cubasis so I could edit them afterwards. Fantastic! I’m still hoping a full fledged DAW like LOGIC is coming to the iPad, that would be a game changer. I’ve been watching a lot of tutorials from people like Mr Bill on how layering sounds can create bigger, more interesting transients etc. PlayBeat 3 is good for this as if has 8 channels to layer with but more importantly each sample can be edited and faded in or out to get more control over how the transients mix together. The drum hits in this track are using these ideas. PlayBeat 3 also has some great sample libraries, many of them free. AUM has had another great update - it’s getting better and better….copying and pasting apps was hugely needed… So, we’re getting there!
