The Red Cross has a weekend event called "On the Run." For 100 Euros, people can go and experience what it is like to be a refugee for 24 hours. In this video, German journalist Sebastian Meinberg pretends to be a 25-year-old Somali woman fleeing from a civil war. He reaches the Hungarian border, but is turned away by the police. After many detours, he manages to reach the German border. He applies for asylum and awaits the German government's decision, along with the other refugees. Finally, the decisions are announced. Most people's asylum applications are rejected, but his is accepted. He and his family rejoice. At the question and answer feedback session, Meinberg meets a real refugee. The refugee tells him to treat refugees like other Germans. Meinberg reflects on his experiences. He says that while the 24-hour role-play didn't show the entire refugee experience, he did know what it was like to get rejected at border after border after border, but still continue towards Germany. Puls is a public Bavarian German radio and Youtube TV program.
