Black remains a key colour in Saint Laurent's approach to winter wear and there were plenty of his sexy black "smokings" -- tuxedos for women introduced in the 1960s and made famous by actress Catherine Deneuve. Using black velvet as a base, Saint Laurent puffed out balloon sleeves and sashed torsos in a blast of colour. He showed rippling leopard-print satins wrapped and tacked at the hip, as well as elongated velvet bustiers over bubble skirts in fuschia or aqua and dropped low on the waist.
