Julio de Caro y su Orquesta Tipica – Gigolo, Tango (Emilio De Caro), Victor c. 1927 (USA) NOTE: Julio DE CARO (b. 1899 – d. 1980) – Argentinian tango-composer, violinist and leader of the Orquesta tipica. Born in Buenos Aires in a big family with Italian roots, he was the second out of twelve children. His father – who once was the director of the conservatory in theatre Scala de Milano - wanted his sons Julio and Francisco to become the “serious” musicians with a university degree. He designated violin to Francisco and piano to Julio, however boys have switched their instruments and devoted themselves to tango, which destroyed their father’s dreams and broke up from family. In 1924, Julio made his first recordings initiating a new tango-style for which was believed that was at the same instrumental level as Carlos Gardel's style at vocal level. He introduced the “softer” and more passionate violin sound, which forever replaced the somewhat “marching” tango-arrangements from early recording years. De Caro’s importance for tango has been expressed by Astor Piazzolla that - in respect to the great tango artist – recorded the virtuous tango Decarisimo. The 11th of December, the day when Carlos Gardel and Julio De Caro were born, is known as the International Day of Tango.
