Torsten Passie: MDMA - Facets of a Recreational and Therapeutic Substance

Cabaret Voltaire, Zürich 17 October 2024 Dr. med. Torsten Passie is a professor of psychiatry and psychotherapy at the Hannover Medical School. He studied philosophy, sociology (M.A.) and medicine. He trained at the University Hospital of Psychiatry Zurich and in the practice of Professor Hanscarl Leuner (1920-1996), the leading expert in psycholytic therapy. From 1998 to 2010, he was a scientist and psychiatrist at the Hannover Medical School. Research on altered states of consciousness and their healing potential, including clinical studies with cannabis, ketamine, nitrous oxide, psilocybin and MDMA. Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, from 2012-2015. Although first synthesized more than 100 years ago, MDMA has only come into use since 1977, first therapeutically, then as a party drug. In a keynote speech, highlights on the history, toxicology, political reactions and therapeutic potential of MDMA will be presented. Afterwards, questions of interest will be discussed in more detail in an exchange with the audience. The speaker has extensive knowledge of practically all aspects of the substance MDMA.
