Rag Mop (Anderson-Wills) by The Ames Brothers, orchestra conducted by Roy Ross After a couple of years trying, the quartet broke through in early 1950 with this #1 record hit (also posted in the top-10 versions by Johnnie Lee Wills, Lionel Hampton and Ralph Flanagan). As “Rag Mop” was peaking, the flipside “Sentimental Me” was continuing to gain in popularity and eventually turned out to be the bigger hit of the two. As with the Ames’ other major Coral hits “Sentimental Me” “Undecided” and “Can Anyone Explain,” “Rag Mop” was re-recorded by them several years later on the widely-distributed RCA Victor “Best Of” LP, but with a different arrangement conducted by Sid Ramin.
