Grace Vineyard Church in New Zealand recently an Easter video depicting the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ—set to the Backstreet Boys' song Everybody. What was meant to be a sacred remembrance of Christ's suffering and victory over death was instead turned into a spectacle of mockery and irreverence. This is the tragic state of much of the modern church. As A.W. Tozer once warned, “A time will come when instead of shepherds feeding the sheep, the church will have clowns entertaining the goats.” That time is now. Where is the fear of the Lord? Where is the reverence for the cross? Let this be a wake-up call. The resurrection is not a gimmick. It is the most powerful moment in history—God defeating death to save sinners.
