The Rookie Season 8 Episode 9: How Lucy Supports Tim in His Hardest Moment! When we finally got to meet Joy Bradford, Tim's mother, I was shocked. Tim's family dynamic has always captivated me; we had the opportunity to meet his father, a terrible person. His mother seemed more like a stranger to me. When Lucy introduced herself, things immediately became awkward because Joy didn't even know who she was to Tim, and Tim appeared uneasy with her around. After Tim nervously tells his mother that he and Lucy are dating, she doesn't seem to be interested in learning more. Lucy confronted Tim as soon as they were alone because she wasn't very excited about this realization. Tim had more work to do, as seen by his statement that he isn't that close to his mother and that he expects Lucy to be cool with it. His mother's visit is a wonderful beginning to the process of unpacking his life, but there is still more to do. Her talk with Lucy was so enlightening that I feared I would have to despise her. She expressed regret for the way she had treated her and described how she felt she had let Tim down as a child. In order to defend his mother and sister, Tim endured a great deal of his father's abuse. He finds it difficult to be honest with her about anything that can cause issues since he doesn't think she could handle it. such as everything that has transpired with Isabel, his ex-wife, or even the fact that he lives with and is seeing Lucy. What happens if it fails? What if it isn't flawless? He seemed to see no value in allowing his mother to enter in such a manner, which has made him aloof. Lucy and his mother are together in the kitchen when Tim gets home. What I appreciate about Lucy's actions in this scene is that she moved aside to give Tim time to speak with his mother. For them to begin the healing process together, this is a positive first step.
