Israelis in Hostages' Square cheer and dance as release of all hostages is announced | ABS-CBN News

Israelis in Hostages Square danced, jumped and embraced one another at the announcement that all the Israeli hostages were freed from Gaza on Monday (October 20)     At the square, two friends embraced one another, Barabara Bogorad said she was overwhelmed that they were all home, her friend Shalomi also stressed that Bogorad who is a soldier does not have to go to Gaza now, since the war is over.   All 20 Israeli hostages were released on Monday morning, said the Israeli military, and the first bus carrying Palestinian prisoners arrived in Gaza said the Hamas prisoners media office.     The United States, along with Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, mediated what has been described as a first phase agreement between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire and the release of hostages by Hamas and prisoners and detainees by Israel.     Under the ceasefire agreement, Hamas was due by noon on Monday to release the remaining hostages, taken captive on October 7, 2023, when the group's militants launched the surprise attack on Israel that ignited the war.      Hostages coordinator Gal Hirsch on Thursday said a task force would be formed to help find the remains of any dead hostages that Hamas could not locate. Twenty of the 48 hostages are known to be alive.     Israel is also to release 1,700 Palestinians who have been detained in Gaza since October 7, 2023 and 22 Palestinian minors, along with the bodies of 360 militants.
