Odyssey ~ Use It Up & Wear It Out 1980 Disco Purrfection Version

This is the third Odyssey song remix I've done. I wish I had paid more attention to them back after they hit big with "Native New Yorker" a disco classic. Their second album failed to provide another dance hit as it concentrated more on ballads and did not do very well. For their third LP, the 1980 release "Hang Together" producer writer wizard Sandy Linzer provided them with another hit with "Use It Up & Wear It Out". The vocal arrangements sound like music from the islands, a very effective and catchy funky disco tune with that squeaky synthesizer! These women in fact are from the Virgin Islands and the lovely way they pronounce, inflect and harmonize bringing a summery attitude to this one. Linzer uses all kinds of engaging sound effects like a whistle, with Lillian and Louise really belting it out! I remember hearing that "1 2 3 Shake Your Body Down" chorus before. Back in 1980 when this came out I was listening to Another Brick In The Wall, Too Hot, How Do I Make You and Off The Wall. The song did not chart on the pop side, but did fairly well with a peak of #6 on the disco chart. Come to think of it the clubs were flooded with Pat Benatar's We Live For Love", but this one's a disco delight. The bass line is movin' and groovin' with the synths electronic pulses become quite intoxicating then when those girls come wailing in! Linzer knew how to bring out the best side of Odyssey. The song was #1 in the UK in 1980.
