Hear from Chris, one of the MTC’s highly skilled additive manufacturing experts, as he discusses a recent project focused on building heat exchangers and electric motors using pure copper — all produced on our latest dual-laser AMCM M290‑2 Custom machine. This project showcases the power of advanced AM technologies to unlock new performance possibilities: What Makes This Project Unique ▫️High‑conductivity pure copper Ideal for components requiring exceptional thermal and electrical performance — such as heat exchangers and electric machines. ▫️Innovative lattice structures Chris has been trialling complex geometries only achievable through additive manufacturing, enabling enhanced cooling and efficiency. ▫️Sustainable, circular materials These parts were produced using recycled scrap copper, including old subsea cables, which have been converted into high‑quality AM powder. Driving Sustainable, High‑Performance Manufacturing This work demonstrates not only the performance benefits of AM copper components but also the viability of a circular model for additive manufacturing materials — reducing waste, minimising environmental impact, and strengthening UK supply resilience.
