In an era where news travels faster than verification, how do we distinguish between accurate data, honest mistakes, and malicious lies? This lecture tackles the critical concepts of Information Literacy and Media Literacy, essential for modern educators and students. [cite_start]We begin by defining "Information" as verifiable facts and distinguishing it from "Misinformation" (falsehoods shared without bad intent) and "Disinformation" (lies shared on purpose to cause harm). The discussion includes relevant local examples, such as fake notifications, health rumours, and the social consequences of shared falsehoods. The lecture then bridges into Media Literacy, drawing a powerful analogy between interpreting classical literature (like poetry) and decoding modern media formats—from memes and comics to podcasts and video games. Key Topics Covered in This Lecture: Defining Information, Misinformation, and Disinformation. The role of intent in spreading false news. Real-world examples: Fake holidays, health scares, and social panic. The "Blasphemy Allegations" example: How disinformation triggers mob violence. Introduction to Media Literacy: Why we must decode modern content. Analogy: Interpreting Urdu/English Literature vs. Understanding Digital Media. Practical Exercise: Analysing visual messages in comics. This lecture is delivered in Urdu, and the presentation slides are in English to help you learn the correct terms. This lecture was delivered at the Government College of Education on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, specifically for B.Ed. students studying ICT in Education. --- 00:00 Micro-Teaching Feedback & Reflection 03:50 Introduction to Information Literacy 04:54 Defining Information vs. Misinformation vs. Disinformation 08:47 Real-world Examples of Fake News (Plastic Rice, Polio Rumours) 14:00 Case Study: Disinformation leading to Social Unrest 18:29 Introduction to Media Literacy 20:24 Analogy: Interpreting Literature vs. Decoding Media 26:18 Practical Exercise: Decoding Visual Messages (The Coffee Comic) 31:25 Identifying Forms of Modern Media (Movies, Reels, Podcasts)
