It always begins the same way. I spend time thinking about the palette, size, title, and concept, allowing these elements to come together in my mind. Then, I cut the canvas to the desired size and prepared the single original piece or, in this case, a diptych, placing it on the wall in my studio. I mist the canvas with water to smooth out any wrinkles, and then I take a moment to observe the surface. I visualize where to start and how to move the paint to bring my vision to life. Whether I'm creating abstract works, unique faces, or other forms, this process is consistent. For this diptych, titled "Autumn In Montauk," I already have a colour palette in mind, inspired by my favourite season, which will soon be ablaze with all the rich hues of fall. I’m eager to start and see where my hands and brushes will lead me. In this timelapse video, I'm layering paint with gestural strokes, mostly using my hands. I'm bringing the essence of Fall indoors with this diptych painting and am excited to see it completed soon. I truly enjoy working on large-scale pieces and have been grateful for the opportunities to create large-scale commissions over the past few years.
