You may know that in the law of Moses, in the old Testament, there was an important commandment about tithing. Any family should give the tithe of whatever they have . Whatever the income they get and it was kind of alms giving and they have to offer this tithe to the altar when it comes to the temple of Solomon, all these tithing were given to the men in the temple and even the tribe of Levites. Although they had nothing related to the work and fields and they do not have lands like others tribes , still they have to pay the tithe because the 11 tribes are giving their tithe and the tribe of Levites. They should pay also the tithe to the temple. But when we moved to the new Testament, we will find out that Christ never spoke about tithing, but he spoke much about alms giving and he was always mentioning that we should give in abundance , we should give, From our heart, we should give with love. We should give in a cheerful way. We should always believe that whatever we give, we gain much. The reward of alms giving is very generous. So when we give in this way of loving love to God and love all people, we will be rewarded in abundance. So he did not mention any kind of number, but there are many stories mentioned in the new Testament, like the widow who gave all what she had. And she was blessed by the Lord himself, when we studied the story of Zacchaeus , he gave 50% of all what he had and he also gave the other 50% in order to cover what the cheating he had done in his old life. So, the words given by the Lord himself in the new Testament is all about giving whatever you can give anything. And also, the commandment given by John the Baptist. He made it this way. If you have two kinds of clothes, give one to someone who had nothing. If you have two plates of food, give one of them to someone who is hungry. So it's not any more related to the tithe. It's like the bottom line that was in the old Testament, but in the new Testament, it's the life of giving it's the open heart to all the needs of humanity, believing in God, the father and relying totally upon him and believing in the treasure in heaven. So you are happily giving whatever you can. That's the vision of alms given in the new Testament, may God bless you all Amen .
