Ecuador is the world champion of orchids due to its geographical location and unique weather conditions that arise. Orchids are the Natural Heritage of Ecuador, as well as being the greatest natural attraction for national and international tourists. A single capsule can contain up to three million seeds which very few can germinate into a new plant. Ecuador has more than 17,058 species of vascular plants or flowering plants, so we have four of the five subfamilies of orchids existing worldwide, which means 4,032 species that have so far been classified and published, of which 1,714 species are endemic, and 400 species are currently under study and description.
